Thomas' Game Development Journal on Youtube!

Post by retrothomas »

Hi everyone!

I'm a newbie here but am very excited about getting involved. My goal is to be an independent game developer and I'm working with/learning about C++, SDL, and game development methodologies.

I just uploaded my first weekly game development journal video to Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFbr7xNYY2w

Please let me know what you think and if you dig it. I look forward to being a part of The Chaos Rift!

I'll post future updates here

Not sure I understand what you mean. I most certainly DO intend to get paid for developing games.

If you're asking what my motivation is, I'll give you a short explanation: I'm nuts about games and have been since getting an NES for Christmas as a little fella. Game development combines my love for games, writing, art, and programming... and it's crazy fun

Oh I thought you meant you are doing it for fun or something... I see, kind of like a freelance type of thing or one man team?

For now, yeah, it's just me, though my wife is an artist and will be involved with the game I'd like to make as a starter project. While my goal is to build a career for myself so that I can do something I love every day of my life, I'm mostly concerned with writing an actual game at this point

if you need any help im sure people here will help you, and most importantly,
when life gives your lemons, you paint that shit gold

Funny, I ran across your channel by accident looking at TruFun202's recent comments. Good start. And you have 24 subscribers in your first day. Now that's pro!

You young'ns these days. Back before this community (and Youtube Dev Videos) existed, 24 subscribers took us like 4-5 Chapters of the Adventures in Game Development.

Chapter 8 was our first 100.

You whippersnappers.

Need me to get off your lawn, GyroVorbis? ;)

Part two is up right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0avHN5fbwVM

I'm really blown away by the amount of comments and subscriptions I've received. It's been encouraging and helpful. I'm excited to keep it going!

Just remember how good ol' GyroVorbis supported you when you double my subscriber count! ;)

I'm expecting your count to keep climbing, because you are a talented speaker. It's rare to find a programmer who is able to speak to the camera and articulate as well as you do.
