Not sure what forum this should go in.
Has anyone heard of the Great Games Experiment? (I left it without spaces in the subject because I always read "game sex periment", and I knew some of you would too)
http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/
It's basically a networking / directory site, where people register as either Developers or Gamers and can post their own games, or other games if it's not in the directory.
Seeing as how the Deadly Rooms of Death has been a feature since I joined the site, it doesn't seem to be updated that much by the officials, though.
And you can tell what kind of crowd it has by the most viewed games being "Pokemon Online", "Pokemon Crater", "Pokemon Diamond", and "Pokemon Colosseum"... o_O;;
But, I was wondering if anyone else thought it might be a good potential place to keep track of other devvers. I have a semi-updated page here: http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/user/Moosader
I've mainly been thinking about it lately because I had a DA club to keep track of game developers but got really tired of taking care of it. I'd like to see a directory like http://www.allegro.cc but language and library-independent.

I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned.

Doooooooom.
I think you can only have links to your downloads, but not upload to the site? Otherwise we'd probably have a bunch of kids using the site for warez or something.

Re: greatgamesexperiment.com
It's an interesting concept - social networking for gamers and game developers.
I signed up for an account, but the site seems to be a bit flakey. Whenever I upload an image (avatar or screenshots) it just sits there and never finishes uploading. I get the same results in both IE and Firefox.
Oh well, I'll try again this weekend.

Re: greatgamesexperiment.com
I've had zero luck with this site.. Every time I try to upload an image it just sits there and says "uploading" or "processing" and never completes. I then tried to send them a bug report and it says "Your email address has been flagged as spam." wtf?

Re: greatgamesexperiment.com
Yeah, it can be a bit buggy. For the longest time it said I had 0 experience points. >_>
Anyways.
What do you guys think? Should we try to get a ton of people to all join? Should we try to find/make a better directory for us amateurs?
*edit* Ack. Trufun is a spammer!

Re: greatgamesexperiment.com
I'm not really diggin the site... It just doesn't seem right. I don't know I think there are better alternatives out there, I say we find some kind of site were people go to find new games and link our sites... Oh crap I don't have a site I need to get on that!
Edit: I know that's what this is, but I think there are better sites somewhere

Re: greatgamesexperiment.com
I had an account on there but i haven't been on there in forever. I think 1 or 2 years ago but it isn't too bad there are still some problems in it but it is kinda nice.

ha! Ditto, my site just expired and I hadn't realised, I was planning on a full redesign as I know some HTML/CSS noweatcomics wrote:Oh crap I don't have a site I need to get on that!
i'll renew it eventually, or start a new one, but I think i'll design one first instead of putting up a template.
As for the site mentioned, I took a peek, wasn't wowed, but hey, I might join if the feeling takes me there again

Re: greatgamesexperiment.com
Maybe the team could make a simple interface for file sharing (a User Uploads section with like 50 or 100MB per user). Would that be possible? I know I've seen forums before with a sort of directory for users to share projects, and certain developer accounts would get 2x space or something (ie. trufun ). I'm not sure if they host this site themselves, or have it hosted elsewhere.. it would depend on bandwidth/storage limitations and the like.

I'm not a fan. Count me out.
That site is mostly for flash design/programmers. We could do better.

I agree completely. (I'll say it now that someone else has.)GyroVorbis wrote:I'm not a fan. Count me out.
