Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
So last night I'm bored and snooping around the Wii Shop Channel, looking for something to do, and I stumbled upon a little title called, "Final Fantasy IV: The After Years." What's this!? A friggin' sequel to Final Fantasy 2?!!?!? To this day, FF2 is still my favorite in the series, and I've been waiting for a sequel since I was 10 years old!
In The After Years, you play as Ceodore, the son of Cecil and Rosa, so he's got both Melee and White Magic. There's also this nifty new combat element called Band, where two members of your party can do a sort of "tag-team" attack and unleash some serious damage. I'm only about an hour into the game, but this is pretty damn sweet so far.
I looked on XBLA, but it looks like this is WiiWare only at this point.

Woah, I'll have to look at it. >3
I'm at the final boss on my psx port, and some other boss on the ds version, but still haven't beaten it. T_T

FFIV (4) or 2?
Edit: looks like you meant 4, since youre talking about cecil, where did you get 2 from?

Re: Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
Its known as ff2 sometimes because final fantasy 3 was the first final fantasy game to be released outside of japan, hence ff4 in japan is commonly known as ff2.]Sanshin77 wrote:FFIV (4) or 2?

Most people these days just stick with the proper numbering not to confuse things though.

I call it "Final Fantasy 2" cuz that's what's on the original SNES cartridge.

Looks like you weren't part of the SNES generation.

True, but I did know of this, thanks to an irate gamer review(youtube) I think. I thought everyone would use the "new titles" now that we've seen all of the games here in USA/Europe.hurstshifter wrote:Looks like you weren't part of the SNES generation.Sanshin77 wrote:FFIV (4) or 2?

No worries. Bottom line, if you're a fan of FF2 (or FFIV), you're going to like The After Years. It does a great job of introducing new plotlines to the story, while keeping inline with the original.Sanshin77 wrote:True, but I did know of this, thanks to an irate gamer review(youtube) I think. I'm about 6 hours into it so far - and still loving every minute of it!
Re: Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
To me it will always be ff2, because thats what it was on the SNES. Just like 6 was 3.hurstshifter wrote:Sanshin77 wrote:FFIV (4) or 2?

Re: Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
You know what's funny about that? In the US, we have no trouble with starting from the middle: see Star Wars. And yet, Nintendo apparently felt that we in the US couldn't handle starting from the middle and went through all the "expense" of making new cover art for cartridges and stuff, not to mention the later confusion -- when they most definitely didn't need to.
I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned.

Re: Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
So, earlier I mentioned that I was about 6 hours into the game. Well, yesterday I finally got the chance to sit down and play it again. I was prepared to embark in hours of epic, Final Fantasy entertainment...
Twenty minutes later, the story is getting really good, and I'm like, "Alright, sweet, this is awesome! Now the fun begins!"
...
Then the credits began to roll...
Are you serious!? That's it!?!?
I realize this is a WiiWare title, but I was expecting a full game - something more than a mini-sequel. Bah, oh well, it was a nice little trip down memory lane, but the game needed to be about 4 times longer.
