I couldn't be bothered to watch it ( 1hr 28min long ) so could someone who is going to watch it post what the overall point of it was.

The opening scene is useless...

though the video itself(after intro) shows HTML5's features

Also it's not linear so you can skip to the middle or something

HTML 5 is the coolest thing ever in the entire world... not really but it's awesome.

I like the new canvas feature you get, and the URL and Email text fields thingys.
Also I like how the Doctype is just <!DOCTYPE HTML> now instead of all that random shit nobody cares about lol (or at least I think it is...)

The new video tag is cool too, and I can't wait to see what comes of the new widgets like calendar and hopefully a color widget too.

Yeah love the new features. It will be a great day for web developers everywhere when HTML5 and CSS3 can reach the vast majority of users and hopefully the horrible IE standards hating crap is no longer used.
I'm also hoping it will obsolete the overuse of flash, silverlight and other multimedia plugins that have infested the web. Great to have quality native <video> and <audio> . I'm currently using firefox 3.5 which along with opera 10 (I think) and google chrome have implementations of HTML 5.

Yeah Opera 10 does...

And Flash isn't obsolete or whatever your trying to say.
Flash is amazing, and if you say otherwise I'll put up a fight lol.

I said OVERUSE, what I was trying to say is it will hopefully mean the end of reliance on flash, silverlight and other plugins for audio and video, flash has it's place for some things but a native HTML <audio> and <video> tag in most cases would be a more preferable method.

How about customization?
Flash is great for video and the one supported in HTML is just primitive.
For simple things, people will use the video tag... but don't expect sites like Vidler or YouTube to stop using Flash, cause that would be taking a step backwards...

And SilverLight sucks dick...

I agree with you on this point and hope in the future for a way of customisation through stylesheets. What can I say, I'm a fan of open technologies and will always personally prefer that over a proprietary plugin. Each to their own I suppose.

Flash should be a standard really...
The possibilities of Flash are amazing.
When I think of a video player, I think of Flash that's just what comes to mind.

It's just just the looks of the player that can be changed.
It's the fact that you can use Flash to populate a list with a playlist and have the video component play the videos in the list.
You can have smooth transitions and cool effects like fading in and out and everything.
Styling anything anyway you want putting it however or wherever you want.

Some stuff you just cant achieve with CSS and what Flash does you can't just achieve using CSS.
I could make a video player where the controls at the bottom where there and if you stop moving your mouse for 5 seconds the controls could fade down and away and do fancy things, stuff you can't do with CSS.

So while the video tag is nice and all, it's really just meant for simple things and isn't meant to be the main source of video playback.
I mean there is currently video playback for HTML, but nobody uses it.
More people will use the video tag with HTML 5 yes, but it will NEVER replace Flash.

And I understand your opinion (I don't want you to think I'm saying your wrong or anything).

True but you'd also be amazed at what can be done with HTML5,CSS and Javascript/AJAX.
It's the fact that you can use Flash to populate a list with a playlist and have the video component play the videos in the list.
This can be developed with existing technologies, it takes a bit of work but it is certainly possible.
You can have smooth transitions and cool effects like fading in and out and everything.
May be possible but I admit this one is trickier but then that's all these effects are "cool" but unnecessary.

Not just with css but with HTML5 and Javascript aswell you could do this (this is assuming the customisation that I wanted arrived)
So while the video tag is nice and all, it's really just meant for simple things and isn't meant to be the main source of video playback.

Actually this isn't native playback it just appears that way, its another plugin. On windows it usually the windows media player one I'm on linux so it's totem.

I agree right now but only time will tell whether we are right.
And I understand your opinion (I don't want you to think I'm saying your wrong or anything).
The same to you :)
