I have a free domain name...

Derbon.. i've noticed you seem a little on the slow side... Not to be mean(well mabey a little mean), I am too, but he's saying, you pay to be able to code your own custom page instead of using widgets to cusomize it... Let's say with the widget page, you automatically have an advertisement banner at teh top of the page... And you can only say upload your videos and stick them in one spot (the designated video spot, like youtube videos are always on the top left, above the comments, left of the description, well if you were to code your own, you could probably paste the video anywhere, and get rid of the banner...
(at least that's how I understood it...)

Oka, so leik... uh.
What do you guys think a good domain name would be for it?
Either something short, and/or something pretty obvious of what it is. (Not like "Bluetooth" and more like "Network Interface Card", amirite? Not a catchy name thing, but something that's descriptive)

Definitely .org, that way I can site you as a source when I write my next paper and the teacher says "no .com websites!". Or maybe .edu...Moosader wrote:Also, do you guys think it should it be .org or .com? o.o
GameDevelopersUnite sounds great but maybe it's too long (in comparison to something like "gamedev")?
Every popular site I can think of has only two syllables (gamedev, facebook, google, yahoo, youtube).

Re: I have a free domain name...
In my honest opinion, this kind of thing doesn't really fit the bill for .org.

Re: I have a free domain name...
Yeah.. I was kidding. Although I've seen plenty of .org domains that are either not an organization at all, or they're just bogus.wearymemory wrote:In my honest opinion, this kind of thing doesn't really fit the bill for .org.

Re: I have a free domain name...
I did come across this site, which is kind of like what I wanted to do:
http://www.indiedevnet.com/
It's not big at all, though.
I guess this will eventually be, too.
http://www.indiegamingportal.net/
Dunno if I should continue with the directory idea, but dunno what else to do with a second domain name.

Re: I have a free domain name...
I have some experience with PHP and SQL, although its been a few years, so I'm rather rusty. I've been looking for a project to get into to get me back up to speed. If you still have any interest in doing this, hit me up on AIM sometime.Moosader wrote:Dunno if I should continue with the directory idea, but dunno what else to do with a second domain name.

Re: I have a free domain name...
Well this is what I put up, as KC has like no game development studios remotely near here (except one place in Springfield that makes Dora the Explorer games)...

Re: I have a free domain name...
seems like a nice idea, a bit smaller than a worldwide community site, but at least you might be able to find local people to collaborate with if you end up doing a big project.

I think I can program pretty well, it's my compiler that needs convincing!

Re: I have a free domain name...
Yeah. I registered "vgcreators.com", instead of like "Ksmovgcreators.com" so maybe I can do something in the future with it.programmerinprogress wrote:seems like a nice idea, a bit smaller than a worldwide community site, but at least you might be able to find local people to collaborate with if you end up doing a big project.
