What really irritates me is pleas for help on forums and communities from aleged 'programmers' who just want you to do their homework. They can't cover up their true intentions (let alone code), and they are pretty much a waste of time to put up with while there is someone out there who wants to work towards being a programmer. I see them alot on Yahoo! Answers and other forums.
I like it better when people try to cheat off me in person, where I can give the wrong answers without being corrected.
Any related stories/experiences?

I just hate it when people who have no programming experience go to college to be a computer scientist. It's friggin' annoying.
1) They have no idea if they actually want to be a programmer in the first place.
2) The god-forsaken homework questions you see all over the place.
3) The "Imma so bettah dan u cuz i goez to collij."

So, do people who go to be CSI's and stuff know how to do the job already, and are sure they /want/ to be one? No, not necessarily. Same goes for programmers, they want to persue it as a career so they go to college/university to learn to do so. Alot of people go to college/university to learn it instead of trying to do it themself at home, because alot of people find that easier. Hey, I came in here with a question on my calculus homework and I am glad I did. It was explained in a way that I was able to learn from (I just wasn't connecting the dots from the way my math professor was explaining it). I have no regrets about asking a question such as that here on the forums, personally, because I would turn around and help someone else who seems genuinely interested in learning.
So to your I hate homework questions attitude, some of us actually do need the help and learn from others online.

I agree with you. Forums are a great place to get help on homework, to a certain extent. No one should expect to get their homework done for them directly, and don't even THINK about saying something like ...
"Hai guyz, can sum1 rite me a wicked good program that will calculate and pr!nt a descending factorial tabel? itz for a problum that im workin on in a personal wirkbook, definititlitly nOT homewerk!"
NO ONE is going to write a program for you. But we'll try our damn best to help you out and point you to all the proper information.

I was talking about the people who put stupid shit in their title like [URGENT] and such. I don't want to do someones homework for them, I want to help them, which most programmers don't seem like they want.short0014 wrote:Hey, I came in here with a question on my calculus homework and I am glad I did. I don't think that you had fit into the category that we're talking about.short0014 wrote:Hey, I came in here with a question on my calculus homework and I am glad I did. And that's the attitude we try to foster here. In case you've forgotten:Pickzell wrote:...I don't want to do someones homework for them, I want to help them
