Music you code to
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to see what kind of music people are listening to when they code. GyroVorbis has said he likes Rush, and I'm in that camp to. I also have Front 242 on queue for the serious sessions. For some reason I find The Cure to be really nice when tranced out in IDE.
What say you?

Re: Music you code to
Rush
Samba De Amigo music
Sonic Adventure 1 + 2 soundtrack
Chrono Trigger (pretty motivating)
Megaman Music (NES remixes)
Mighty Mighty Bosstones
I don't really find myself listening to many of my favorite bands (other than Rush) when I'm coding. Some of them are either distracting, too relaxing, or aren't really motivating in the context.

I freakin' love 80's hair metal while I'm coding. Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Poison, Skid Row, Scorpions, Motley Crue, and the list goes on... I have to be coding something I'm familiar with tho...otherwise if critical thinking is required, I need complete silence.

Hm..I've got Mastodon on now. Just listened to some Tool for the first time in a DAMN long time.
Got alotta NIN on here, Faith no more, Tomahawk, Tripping Daisy, QOTSA, Kyuss, Failure. Depeche mode.
I do like some liquid drum & bass on occasion :]

HELL YA! My favorite band ever. NIN, Tool, Jane's Addiction, Metallica, Mindless Self Indulgence, Rammstein, Oomph!, Die Krupse, Skinny Puppy, and such. Basically metal and industrial when I'mm coding. I also tend to listen to hardcore rap when doing anything with computers, I don't mean hardcore rapist/P.I.M.P. rap though I mean like La Coka Nostra and Sick Jacken.qpHalcy0n wrote:Just listened to some Tool for the first time in a DAMN long time.
However I do indeed love 50-90 music with Depeche Mode being in the top 20 bands of that range.

Usually NES soundtracks (NSF files), chiptunes, Daft Punk. Otherwise, sometimes classic rock internet radio or TV. Songs with words tend to get mind-numbing to me after I know all the lyrics by heart, so most of my 948 MP3's don't help me much when I code.
I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned.

Yea, I usually start singing along. Which actually makes me code, clean, work and the likes, faster.MarauderIIC wrote:Usually NES soundtracks (NSF files), chiptunes, Daft Punk. 14,970 Tracks on my computer, I just hit the shuffle button in Media Monkey, lol.

Instrumental hip hop and techno (drum and bass).
I mostly listen to Ronald Jenkees when I'm programming.

I'm often listening to Foo Fighters, but also Zappa, Rush, Mr Big, ..., some local bands and some Metal when I feel like it.
At the moment I'm trying to code a proper MD2 model loader which makes me listen to more Metal

I'm enjoying Rob Dougan and Vivaldi, while I code.

Kamelot, Metallica, Megadeth, etc
I don't usually listen to it because it distracts me and makes it harder to think
