My birthday was...

Post by MadPumpkin »

My birthday was pretty great, I had a nice day. It really wasn't anything extremely special. I ate a lot of ice cream though.

For my birthday today, I got:

1: Soldering Iron that I will use to make robots. From my mom.

2: De-Soldering Iron that I need, so I can scavenge for old parts. From my mom.

3: Soldering Iron cleaning kit, for cleaning the De-Soldering Iron as well. And also from my mom.

4: Solder and 75 feet of 22-gauge wire, both are needed for almost all robot projects.

5: Micro Controller and a BASIC Language programming Micro Controller book from my brother Michael, who took the time to call his little brother just to wish him a happy birthday. :]

6: Serj Tankian's self titled album: Elect the Dead. I love you Serj!

7: A bag of marshmallows from my sister who also gave me solder. I love you Emily!

8: A subway gift card a pretty high dollar one for a restaurant too! So that I can eat five dollar foot longs while I make robots.

9: Mountain Dew... In a jar... It kind of looks like pee.

10: A Walmart gift card that will be put to good use in the art and electronics sections.

11: 20$ that has mostly been used to buy computer parts.

12: The most amazing Tool shirt ever, with one of Alex Gray's finest concepts on the back.

13: To spend the day with my 2 friends who were actually home this weekend. One was my super amazing girlfriend who I had fun at a haunted house with tonight. :D I love yuu Makinley!!!

14: Decided what kind of robot I want to make first, and have the plans for it.

15: My dad didn't call... Disappointing... I actually almost cried, he completely forgot about me. Still trying not too. It's alright, I still love you daddy. :'| Fuck you too.

So how much do you know about electronics and electrical engineering? Are you planning to make a robot from the digital logic level (TTL logic gates) or are you buying some pre-built microcontroller and soldering peripherals on a board?

What kind of robots we talkin about here? Game bots, unifunctional bots, or should I keep a look out for terminators?

I do both. My brother got me a pre-built microcontroller for my birthday, and it's a damn nice one too. But before that I used to have a soldering iron. It's broken now, that's why I got a new one for my birthday. I used to just make them with no programing whatsoever and handle special events with relay hacks that I learned on accident a couple years back.

However, at one point in time, it took me ages, but I managed to make my own programmable microcontroller board. Which I used for a remote controlled car, that had 10 LEDs on top, and on the remote I could turn each one on or off. (Like Binary)
Mostly out of good humor...

So to answer your question, I know quite a bit about electronics and electrical engineering. However, I'm not a reliable team member for any sort of project since I only work in my free time. Which I don't have much of when I'm with my girlfriend.

Yes... Yes, that kind. But only the girl. I'm going to be taking the place of the male of course.

Oh wait I mean, "Oh god I'm scarred for life! I'm only 14 man that shits messed up!"

Thank you very much every one! And I did have a good birthday. I just went to an ancient store like the DI er something, and got a million different electronics to tear down. I've already taken out many pieces from all of them. Still not done though, I'm leaving soon I'm going to take off some more when I get back. I got some audio I/O relays for hacking into.

Well I don't know about the first 2... But keep you're eyes peeled for the later on the list... ;)
