Avatar Showdown
Yup, they released it.

Perhaps their oh-so-revealing trailer didn't convey this, but it's basically a game of QTEs - you press a button quicker than your opponent to win. So, Mortal Kombat it is not.
Setting aside the history with this team, all I can say is that this proves one thing: people want avatar games on 360, even with the tiniest bit of interactivity. I can't even imagine the response if a game like this came out where you could, you know, actually move your character. And you gotta give them some props for actually releasing a 360 indie game.

Okay, so I downloaded the demo, and I have to partially rescind my comment about setting aside the history with the team. I thought it was just a joke in the trailer, but Falco is actually in the game. And he has the slowest time of any enemy: in a game where Forrest Gump provides you with a 0.50-second challenge, Falco waits a full 9 seconds before attacking. That is some bitterness they got there.

Wow, I can't believe Falco was immortalized in a Jforce game. You're like a celebrity to them! I'll definitely have to check out the demo.

It is currently available from the Xbox Live Indie Games store for 80 Microsoft points (US$1). I couldn’t think of a better price because, frankly, that’s all this game is really worth.

They're expecting to make $10,000 from this according to their "marketing specialist." Microsoft takes, I think, a 25% cut of profits, so they make $0.75 per purchase. Apparently they're going to sell 13,334 copies of this.GroundUpEngine wrote:They sure are impressive, they will be rich!

Good luck selling your 13,334 copies of this JFail. //sarcasm
Edit:
That right there would scare me away.Includes online play and the Official JForce Seal of Quality.

Re: Avatar Showdown
First i would like to say that i too think that JForce are pretty ignorant, and that i dont think Avatar showdown is anything near worth the 1$ it cost. But before you get too upset about the Falco in the game thing, you have to remeber the JForce gay bar level.kamokow wrote:This is... extremely fail and pathetic.aamesxdavid wrote:I thought it was just a joke in the trailer, but Falco is actually in the game. EDIT:
IIRC Flaco even challenged them to let their game talk instead of themself...

Re: Avatar Showdown
Hey, I'm not exactly upset about it. I've known for awhile (their trailer) that I would be featured in the game.
But seriously? Of all the quotes they could have used... the one they chose is especially funny since my name really is Falco.

Re: Avatar Showdown
While I think they were dumb for provoking GyroVorbis the way they did, and were deservedly put in their place with the response video, I can only give kudos to them for getting a game completed and releasing it (even if it is a bit bland and seems to have a serious bug )
I'm looking forward to seeing their Unstoppable game and wish them well with it. I commend all indie devvers, even the douchebag ones!

Re: Avatar Showdown
I downloaded the demo to try it out and was majorly disappointed to see that the avatars are not animated in real time. I assumed that when you smashed on the button they would lunge at each other but instead the screen just flashes and they appear next to each other in a different position. Maybe the avatar bindings that XNA provides does not give you this flexibility, I don't know. Either way, very boring game.

The Creator's Club provides a kit to create your own Avatar animations, so...hurstshifter wrote:I downloaded the demo to try it out and was majorly disappointed to see that the avatars are not animated in real time. Re: Avatar Showdown
I would have to say that based on what I know of basic XNA, this doesn't impress me much. If they hit their target of $10,000 then I should be very rich when I release a few games. lol

That, and it's not something you said, it's something they imagined you saying. Double fail.
And yeah, it's not really a big deal, and if anyone actually looked into it, all they would find is Jfail getting owned. So they can just have at it, that's cool.
Well, first of all, no one's really "upset" about it, more disappointedly shaking their heads at the grudge these guys are carrying around. Secondly, if ES were to be released with that level, I'd say you have a great point there... but I seriously doubt that will happen. Point being, I see a huge difference between making a playful YouTube video making fun of someone, and releasing an official game (which you're making money from) that attempts to - regardless of how badly it fails.ismetteren wrote:But before you get too upset about the Falco in the game thing, you have to remeber the JForce gay bar level.

Re: Avatar Showdown
Yeah, you guys definitely aren't going to be playing through that gay bar... that might be a giant, gaping hole in storyline continuity.aamesxdavid wrote:Secondly, if ES were to be released with that level, I'd say you have a great point there...
Not to mention, that was written with the old engine. Not really compatible.
