Fraps plugs "into" OpenGL/DirectX windows and captures their rendering. It's by far the best for games, but it only works on games.

+1 for CamStudio, free and very easy to use

Yea cam studio's good, it just lags a bit when you run a game at the same time.hurstshifter wrote:+1 for CamStudio, free and very easy to use

Camtasia Studio is much better than CamStudio (however it isn't free).
There's no place like ~/

Agreed. I prefer CamStudio just to be legal.LeonBlade wrote:Camtasia Studio is much better than CamStudio (however it isn't free).

Well, I would have been one to say "Camstudio kicks ass," but I have since found out that AUDIO RECORDING FROM SPEAKERS DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS VISTA/7.
I've used Camstudio flawlessly with XP, and it still works perfectly for everything except for the goddamn audio recording on Vista/7.
But yeah, every video (including ESRev2) since AiGD Ch 8 or 9 has been Camstudio (before that was Hypercam, which is a piece of shit).

Re: Screen Capture for Youtube videos?
I got it to work on 7, I just had to enable the Stereo Mix input device and set that as the recording device in Camstudio. However this meant I couldn't record voice at the same time, but meh.

Are you talking about how you can't select "Stereo Mix", or "What U Hear"? ..because there are ways...
EDIT: As RyanPridgeon said, plus if you unmute your microphone input (so it's coming through the speakers), that will record with it.
Re: Screen Capture for Youtube videos?
I use TechSmith's Camtasia, it's a great piece of software imo, but it's not free =/.
Re: Screen Capture for Youtube videos?
if you are on osx, screenflow is the app for you, its not free, buts its better than any screen casting tool i have used, free or not.
