Retro Games

Post by thejahooli »

Because I'm only 13, and was born too late to experience gaming at it's best, I've missed out on some games which I wish I hadn't. I only started playing games a lot when I got my PS2 (with the exception of Pokemon Red and Silver). I always wished I had played some of the games from N64/PS1 period ,but I never got around to it.

But now I'm planning on playing through some of the games from then. But which games would you recommend playing through. I can't play through all of the games that were good so I want to know which ones you would consider I have to play.
I'll make your software hardware.

Oh man...PS1 and N64 are now considered retro gaming?

/jumps off a cliff

I say ditto to hurstshifter's list - that's a good lineup! I would add Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo to the list. Those were both groundbreaking titles for the PS1. For the N64, I would recommend Banjo-Kazooie, Wave Race 64, and GoldenEye.

Once you've experienced what the PS1 and N64 have to offer, you'll need to travel further back in time to the days of NES, Genesis, and Super Nintendo - trust me, you won't be disappointed! ;)

Wow I can't believe I forgot those two! Absolutely! Also GroundUp said Final Fantasy Tactics which is one of my favorite games of all time so I can't believe I forgot that one either. Good stuff guys.

And yea, I can't believe PS1 is retro gaming... sigh.........

I wouldn't consider PS1 to be retro either. It's just that I still missed that period and, from what people say, there are a lot of good games for it.
I'll make your software hardware.

Oh boy! Oh boy! Aren't you missing out. I was born just when that era was at it's peak. *ehem* Here's my own little consolidated list of personal favorites.

Nintendo 64/ PlayStation 1 (available for both platforms)

Megaman Legends 1
Resident Evil 2

Nintendo 64/

Kirby and the Crystal Shards
Super Mario Kart 64
Chameleon Twist
Legend Of Zelda Ocarina of time
Super Mario 64
Starfox 64
Bomberman 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Donkey Kong Country 64
Super Smash Bros 64

PlayStation 1/

Crash Bandicoot Series
Metal Gear Solid Series
Digimon World 1-3
Digimon Rumble Arena
Anything with the Name (Final Fantasy in it)
Frogger
Resident Evil series
CastleVania
Megaman Legends 1-2 (especially the 2nd one I cannot stress how much you should get it)
Misadventures of Tronn Bonn
Chrono Cross
Chrono Trigger (have a remake or something for PS1 I'd get it since it includes badass animated cut-scenes)
Rainbow Six

I know there's a shitload of games I'm leaving out but that's all I can think of for the moment being. I'm sure you'll know what to get but those are a (tops) list of what you should definately be getting.Good luck on your expansion into old-skool retro territory of gaming! ^_^

P.S. Damn you for leaving out the Sega Saturn :(

I consider that generation of gaming to sorta be the borderline of old-skool and the newfangled. Anything beyond is new whereas anything before is old-skool.

I submit Paper Mario for N64, and I submit Ape Escape, Tomba 1/2, and the Spyro series for PSX. :)
