Music and royalties
So I'm currently working on a project where I will be using music that I record myself but has been written by someone else, like John Lennon/Paul McCartney. I'm not sure what the laws on this are (I'm sure it varies from country to country, anyway) when it comes to distribution and so on so I figured I'd ask here about it not having a more suitable forum for the question. Kepp in mind I'm most likely distributing the final product for free and will credit properly.
Re: Music and royalties
I'm not quite sure but in Germany if you want to put a cover song on a CD you want to publish you have to pay 500€ beforehand for every song.

Yo!
If you’re doing this for free as you say then you don’t need to worry about that.

Ok, thanks for the quick reply.K-Bal wrote:I'm not quite sure but in Germany if you want to put a cover song on a CD you want to publish you have to pay 500€ beforehand for every song.
Ok, that's what I was thinking but wasn't sure. I'd probably distribute it anyway though, but good to hear other peoples thoughts on it.Thel wrote:Yo!

You might want to check out Dwelling of the Duels. It features a lot of remixes of classic video game music. They might be able to answer your question.

I wouldn't bet on this. It might be different in every country, too.Thel wrote:Yo!

I'd say contact the rights holders (the publishers, maybe?) of the music that you're going to be using and see what they say. Of course, that could take quite a while.
I'll write a signature once I get some creativity and inspiration...

Yeah I suppose that would be the best way to go about it to make sure, yet not easy.rolland wrote:I'd say contact the rights holders (the publishers, maybe?) of the music that you're going to be using and see what they say. Of course, that could take quite a while.
