AOE2
Cause I played it longer than any other game. It has an awesome fun factor and I love the level editor inclusion.

AOEII, I gotta agree. It may not be the most fast paced game (which I suppose isn't necessarily a bad thing), and the beginning could be a little less routine, but there's something about it that is just so timeless. It feels like a masterpiece.

Haven't played it much (only ever played the demo and loved it, but I just borrowed it a few days ago), but Warcraft III is a thousand times more fun than Starcraft will ever be. It's a great RTS.

Re: Favourite RTS and why?
I love everything about AOE 2, however I find it very hard to play seriously now offline, the AI is horrific when it comes to 'every man for themself' type games, all of the players seem to have basically the same AI and just attack the human player, which kinda annoys me, I usually play teamless matches on most games, to get all of the players to fight for land/resources, but saying that, I've wasted countless hours of my life playing this game since I first encountered it all those years ago, the visuals are great too, and I like the units.

I think I can program pretty well, it's my compiler that needs convincing!

And now a joke to lighten to mood :D
I wander what programming language anakin skywalker used to program C3-PO's AI back on tatooine? my guess is Jawa :P

Re: Favourite RTS and why?
With out a shadow of a doubt Dawn of War II. A lot of RTS games these days seem to be about 'Spam Unit A to counter Unit B' or are far too focused on resource gathering instead of the actual war. Dawn of War II is Warhammer 40k (Big +1), looks amazing for an RTS, does away with base building and makes battles about strategy and really getting the most out of your units. It's refreshing to play an RTS where 10 units can beat 100 enemies if they are used well by the player as opposed to the RTS games we have gotten used to over the last few years.

I like the stronghold series, it takes a unique approach to RTS

Re: Favourite RTS and why?
I loved all of the Age of Empire series :D
Red Alert was my first RTS and that was awesome. I have memories of being a kid and spawning hundreds upon hundreds of the infantry and just charging the shit out of everything. LOLOL. Tiberian Sun was just as great.
I played Warcraft 3 alot but I never really liked it as much. Dunno why. Starcraft is amazing, and the Total War series is great if that even counts. I can play those games for hours.

Re: Favourite RTS and why?
I am going to say Dune II because it was the first rts i played and led me to become obsessed with the genre. it was back in like 1993 my friends dad had it on his computer and we would play it for hours.
Command and Conquer 1 was also one of my favorites, AOE was great, never a fan of supreme commander. The one I spent the most time playing definitely red alert 2/yuri's revenge. I still play it once in a while.
oh also played warcraft 1&2 a lot. glittering prizes.

Re: Favourite RTS and why?
As EdBoon said, Dune II.
I remember seeing it the first time; the graphics just blew my mind. Liked the resource collecting part. Even made it through with all three houses.
Then I got Warcraft I later which had the same principles basically. I'd use to leave the enemy's farm so I could harvest every last tree and gold mine :D
After that I mostly lost interest in the RTS-genre because of more "complexity" in the newer ones, I liked them simple.

Starcraft. I'm completely hooked on watching the Korean Starleagues.
Re: Favourite RTS and why?
I just got starcraft lol, we should play on a private server sometime, I was actually just about to go watch some youtube vids to see some common strategies
