Minecraft Review
MINECRAFT
well, what can i say, this game is frekin' amazing and i love it.
It's for windows, mac and linux.
It's kind of harsh on your computer though, so you may want to check specifications.
Check the cost on minecraft.net because its changing with every update so get it soon
Well what do you do in minecraft?
As i heard someone put it nicely its like "Bear Grylls the game"
The graphcis are all just big cubes with textures on them. I guess they're meant to be like that so its simple. But anyways when you collect resources. You can put them back down and build stuff.its like being a little kid with legos.
you basically run around collecting resources during the day and then at night you have to build a shelter to hide from all the things that come to kill you.
At night you work in your shelter building things out of the resources you collected and expanding your shelter with mine shafts and stuff so you can get better resources like iron and diamond.
Monsters can spawn at any time of day, but they have to be in a low light level area (i'll talk about lighting in a sec) and they cant spawn within an area of you and can't spawn a certain distance from you.
All the lighting in the game is dynamic. During the day the light level is very high so monsters can only spawn in dark caves. During the Night time the light is much lower and monsters can spawn any were. So how do you survive in your house? you can make "torches" out of sticks and coal and put them in your house to light it up.
The game is currently in alpha but is being updated constantly (every Friday).
SeaNanners is doing a series on the game, so you can check it out if your on the fence about the game: http://www.youtube.com/user/seananners? ... NgI2o_Jinc
The website for the game is http://Www.Minecraft.Net
BY THE WAY: The maps in this game are huge and randomly generated. the map is 8x the size of the earth but you can't explore that far because you would have a petabyte sized save file.

Re: Minecraft Review
Sounds pretty awesome . I'm not sure why, but I always kind of like games which do not have extremely complex graphics. Maybe it's just because it's less of a drag to my awful graphics card, or maybe it's due to the fact that I always find games with boxy-style graphics fun to play, and their gameplay seems to be much more concentrated on than in most graphically intensive games.
You've persuaded me, I'm ordering Minecraft now!

I feel exactly the same.JGorard159 wrote: I'm not sure why, but I always kind of like games which do not have extremely complex graphics. but this game is seriously computer intensive. my new laptop can barley run it on minimal specs.

Re: Minecraft Review
Uh oh, that's bad news for my crappy Advent laptop. It has a 5 year old graphics card, which basically means that I can barely run Mario with a playable framerate .
I need to upgrade, I'm missing out!!!

Re: Minecraft Review
I have a 2 GHz processor 4 GB ram and a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 and the game runs fine.
Also, speaking of buying Minecraft, I bought Minecraft for 10 random Anons on /v/ yesterday... don't ask why I don't know.
GET THIS GAME IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT, IT'S AWESOME

If I can run it with my Celeron D 3.33Ghz, 2GB RAM, and nvidia 9500gt then you can run it on anything.

Re: Minecraft Review
My laptop crashed playing the free browser version, so yeah...
It's so irritating because it looks awesome from what I can see on the website!
Clearly not. Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU 2370, 1.73GHZ, 2GB RAM and SiS Mirage 3 Graphics for me. Not unexpectedly, due to the undeniable crappiness of my specs, it ran at 2FPS for a few seconds, then crashed altogetherJaxDragon wrote:If I can run it with my Celeron D 3.33Ghz, 2GB RAM, and nvidia 9500gt then you can run it on anything.

Re: Minecraft Review
Yeah, I really should. If I can't play a polygon/primitive based graphics game like Minecraft in a web browser, that's really a sign I should upgradeLeonBlade wrote:¬.¬ ... get a new computer bro.

I think something that is worth mentioning on this forum is redmine circuits. It's a form of electricity, i haven't really played with it myself, but it seems pretty cool.
Here is a page explaining it. You should really check it out: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Electricity

No it's not. Minecraft BSODs my desktop computer every time I try to play it, so I wouldn't be surprised if something was seriously fucked in their code.JGorard159 wrote:Yeah, I really should. But seriously, I know tons of people who play this game on Windows... it's not the code it's you...
However, the code isn't optimized at all, but the BSOD isn't the code, it's you.

Re: Minecraft Review
Yeh I've played it a lot and never gotten BSOD. And the optimizations are to be expected. I think he'll really buckle down after alpha, after he gets the basics of the game done that is.

Re: Minecraft Review
I don't know why that would BSOD your computer.
I've never gotten BSOD not even on my computer that really really sucks.

Re: Minecraft Review
I've only ever had 1 BSOD ever; and that was because my sound card had overheated. Replaced the card, cleaned out my clock fans and I haven't had one since. It's extremely unlikely to get BSOD through a software problem alone.
