Goodbye controllers? :'(
Is it just me or does it seem like controllers are going to die out
Microsoft's new kinect-
It uses no controllers and just detects motion
Sony's new wii rip-off
And Nintendo wii's motion controller
Are we slowly drifting away from controllers forever!??!?

Re: Goodbye controllers? :'(
Sadly yes. People are wanting to accomplish and cram so much bullshit into the tiny little controllers that everyone is finding it difficult. As technology progresses people are wanting easier simpler ways of performing a multitude of tasks. Look at all the touch-screen phones. To damned many buttons clumped into one simple machine seems inneficiant. People like the control they feel they have on their laptops and desktops (what with all the dozens of keys and all with the mouse....) I guess they feel this is the best approach. I don't think it'll be dying out any time soon. But someday...it will =/ I'll try and be unbaised about it but I too prefer controllers over motion sensing technologies. It looks cool but, I wouldn't like that sort of thing to play EVERY game I have >_<; I certainly hope it doesn't happen any time soon but, it's a definate possibility that in the next couple of generations it'll be happening.
However, keep in mind so long as there's a demand for controllers people will make them. Remember the Wii classic controller?

Besides, my keyboard is my controller more often than not.. don't think that's going anywhere any time soon.

Don't forget the popularity of touch-screen devices such as the iPhone/Pad either. Of course we are drifting away from controllers... that has been the direction the industry has been headed ever since the DS first came out...

I think that controllers will definitely become more of a background presence, but THEY WILL NEVER DIE!
Quit procrastinating and make something awesome.

If controllers die out then I'M MOST CERTINLY GOING WITH THEM!
Ok touch screen consoles and hardware in general like iPad, ds, dsi, phones etc... are okay but the is no way gaming will ever be the same without controllers

Re: Goodbye controllers? :'(
while i love the innovation these input devices have, they just dont work for some things.
eg i was at a friends house using a wii controller for the first time the other day, and the fucking menus wouldnt let me just use it. it was poorly calibrated and was very unpleasant. i will never use a wii or buy one now.
i see the traditional controller being around for a while yet until these new devices are more reliable/accurate

Seems like a lot of people like the newer motion sensor and touch screen bullshit that people are pulling out of their asses however I think the are to many people who won't let them die out

I wouldn't be surprised if people aren't already working on touch-pad keyboards for laptop and even touch-pad keyboards for desktops.... Then later on people will try to implicate motion-sensory technologies for them next.... Sometimes the simplest of things (buttons and analogs) are the best...These companies need to learn you don't have to be REVOLUTIONARY with EVERY new thing just to appease to us...but yet again that's the way we're going. I don't get what's so appealing about those things. I can understand touch-screens for cell-phones or palm pilots (because they're so damned small) but really... =/ I hope they'll just stop this bullcrap.

I don't mind as long as the device is efficient.

I don't have one but I remember seeing one a gadget show ( tv program ) its kinda like a block that you turn on and a red light shines onto the desk to resemble the keys and you just touch the desk to press the keys.dandymcgee wrote:Do you have one? I think that was his point.N64vSNES wrote: LOL!

Its not really a "touch screen" but its buttonless
EDIT:
I'm fairly sure this was it:

If they try to replace controller with games I won't buy their game because while things like the Kinnect are cool, they should only be an add-on.
Not required to play any games.
