Hit me up if you want to dabble together (unless it's Ancient Greek that you're dealing with).Ginto8 wrote:Greek: just barely starting to dabble

I fill those gaps in with English though.

Christmas was kind to my linguistic interests! This should make sure that I procrastinate Greek less (yes; the grey book is about ancient Greek, though, but that's interesting too)!

It's ancient greek that I'm dabbling in, and I just got "From Alpha to Omega", the most useful text for the most ancient texts. But for swedish, I may take you up on that offer
Quit procrastinating and make something awesome.

Re: Languages and linguistics
The only languages I know are English and some Spanish
I can't speak Spanish very well and can't understand anyone who speaks it unless sentence is VERY simple or they speak reeeeeeaaallllllyy sllooooooooowwwlyy
Although I can read it very well and I'm hoping to be able to speak and understand it much better by the end of this year
Programming languages is what I'm good at. I know (in order of how well I'm know them):
C/++, perl, lua, arm asm, HTML, php, and then a few others like java and c# but had no use for them so I didn't bother learning too much. I might go back to java if I want to make an applet.
Back to spoken languages, I want to learn a bit of Italian but don't know where to start.
Any suggestions?

Should Ginto fail to deliver, you're more than welcome to discuss modern Greek with me, I've been learning for about 4 weeks now.Skomakar'n wrote:Hit me up if you want to dabble together (unless it's Ancient Greek that you're dealing with).Ginto8 wrote:Greek: just barely starting to dabble

Well
Spanish: It's my native language.
English: I guess I defend myself
Portuguese: I can understand myself with other person because the similarities with Spanish.
Italian: I SHOULD learn this since I've got the nationality xD.

Oh, come on. I've been away from these boards for a long time, but nothing new here?
I've started a bit more seriously with Finnish since last time and I've learned most of the Arabic script and some Persian.
I also found eight dictionaries for only about 5 € recently. :D

Re: Languages and linguistics
So I slipped from Persian into the rightful owner of its letters; Arabic. I haven't gotten far, but it's interesting, and quite a lot of fun. I've been a little too busy with other stuff lately to have any proper sessions the last two weeks or so, though.
Re: Languages and linguistics
Wooohoo, I'll post something too:
-Polish (native) - Cypriots are telling me that it sound like snake having sex with machine gun. I personally consider it one of most useless languages in the world, albeit good for poetry. Also I heard somewhere it's one of 5 hardest languages in the world
-Greek (almost-native I suppose?) - I spent on Cyprus my last 7 years, and even though I learned it quite well I still sometimes have troubles with word's endings (I'm just terrible at languages, lmao), have tendency to incorporate weird (although technically speaking correct ones) syntax and completely fail at grammar. I still had good grades tho D:
-English (pffft, fluent) - heck, I use it daily since I was twelve.
-Russian (limited) - I spent lots of time hanging out with Russian speakers, also its fairly similar to polish so I can communicate with Russians at some level. I can understand more than I can say simply because I never sat down and studied it.
-German and French (eeee?) - only basics of it, although I like them, being linguistic cripple I am I never could learn them as well as I'd like to. Though, if I'd never had to move either German or French language country I'd have no problems picking them up.
