Indie Game: The Movie Trailer

Indie Game: The Movie Trailer (Sundance Version)

I must say i'm pretty excited about this movie

from the website:
With the twenty-first century comes a new breed of struggling independent artist: the indie game designer. Refusing to toil for major developers, these innovators independently conceive, design, and program their distinctly personal games in the hope that they, too, may find success.

After two years of painstaking work, designer Edmund McMillen and programmer Tommy Refenes await the release of their first major game for Xbox, Super Meat Boy—the adventures of a skinless boy in search of his girlfriend, who is made of bandages. At PAX, a major video-game expo, developer Phil Fish unveils his highly anticipated, four-years-in-the-making FEZ. Jonathan Blow considers beginning a new game after creating Braid, one of the highest-rated games of all time.

First-time filmmaking duo Lisanne Pajot and James Swirsky capture the emotional journey of these meticulously obsessive artists who devote their lives to their interactive art. Four developers, three games, and one ultimate goal— to express oneself through a video game.

Super Meat Boy and Braid were each in the Humble Bundle at some point, so they are associated at least.

Also, this looks fucking amazing. Do want.
Quit procrastinating and make something awesome.

Looks like a fun movie! Let's just hope they don't decide to make you pay for another trailer. ;)
I do hate that a lot of indie developers these days are going for the whole "let's make a Flash game and charge people $15 for an Alpha release of a game" thing.
Obviously, I understand people want to make a living, but what ever happened to making things because you enjoyed them?
Personally, I'd rather release a great game made from my heart to everyone for free, and allow people to donate if they want.
Of course, that's just me. :)
There's no place like ~/

I am looking forward to this movie, I'm scared though that it is comprised of only the do or die/hipster type developers that have had success, which unfortunately is probably the first thing to come to mind when people hear indie. I have a feeling almost all of the community on here is not surviving off of their game income but code because they really enjoy coding and or gaming. Plenty of users here are doing well on their own and just still love to program (trufun, falco, all the students) many of us engineers, software devs, etc. Don't get me wrong, i have nothing against the total commitment way of going into it and I'm sure they hold passion for coding as well, but there is also a huge group that is fortunate enough to do it in their spare time without risk of being evicted you know. And I think that ties into your point LeonBlade, that games made from the crowd without much risk seems to hold closer to just do what they want only, and not just making another zombie shooter to get some quick cash  That is why I have such huge respect for the ES team, they are so devoted to their project, but still get shit done outside of that as well. Although, they do live in Alabama, hide' yo kidz.

I gotta see this move :shock2:

i love the ending shot of the SNES controller, for some reason the design of the controller is used in generic icons that represent video games the most, but still this movie looks epic, the only way i could see my self not watching this is if they program it in java, but judging by the 360 they are using XNA :)
<tpw_rules> LightDark: java is a consequence of inverse moore's law: every 18 months, the average program will be twice as slow. therefore, computers always run at the same percevied speed. java's invention was a monumental step

It is not "by" them, but there are plenty of interviews of the guys over at Wolfire, along with the creators of many other humble indie bundle developers.

Super Meat Boy, Aquaria, Lugaru, etc.

Check out some of the interviews and promo videos here: http://www.indiegamethemovie.com/video/
