@EdBoon - What software are you using to create your 3D models? I've had a little experience in both 3Ds Max and Blender, but I was just curious. Hope the progress is going well! Looking forward to seeing some new sexy screens.

Re: Beer Pong 3D (XNA)
hahaha, please do not give me credit for any art ever. All of this was done by Justin, the guy I contract for any in game art I need, but I know he uses Maya. He did all the artwork (minus the menu art) for undead empire, but hes also a pretty talented 3d modeler too. I'm looking forward to seeing what the models will turn out like, and meanwhile i can focus on further coding. Can't wait. Even when you have the coding done, it doesn't feel like your own until all the crappy placeholder free art is replaced.JamesParkes wrote:@EdBoon - What software are you using to create your 3D models? Update Video 4: menu transitions and story mode
Lately I've been working a lot on menu transitions. I like the metro style theme and think it will be necessary once I integrate kinect controls (I'm assuming that they will require all menu navigation to be possible through kinect when they allow indie developers to use it) so i have decided to do all menus in this style. Also I have decided to use the Mortal Kombat single player ladder system for single player story mode. In each match there will be a voice intro and smack talk from each opponent, working your way up through just party scenes to tournaments and then the world series of beer pong. The menu buttons that are in the video will also have a white silohette symbol to the left of the text. Also in the video, after the computer player bounces the ball and you see it take on a weird force out of nowhere, that is the swat function, there will be an animation of the player swatting the ball.
Also, even though I lost it progresses to the next opponent on the ladder, which won't normally happen, it will repeat the player you just lost to.
Next I will get through the player profile screen and some of the other option screens, trying to get through as much of the menu as possible while the models are being worked on.
Also, I am starting to get a list of logos and styles for the clothing, was wondering if I could use the Elysian Shadows logo from the main website as an in-game t-shirt logo, or if there is a logo that you wouldn't mind me using in the game. Let me know if that is cool to put in the game.

Re: Beer Pong 3D (XNA)
I don't think Falco and the rest of the guys would mind at all. I'm actually still in the progress of getting our Elysian Shadows logo up to date and consistent with the style of the game, but once it is at a finished state (and the team is 100% on it) I think we would be more than happy to see it in your game!EdBoon wrote:Also, I am starting to get a list of logos and styles for the clothing, was wondering if I could use the Elysian Shadows logo from the main website as an in-game t-shirt logo, or if there is a logo that you wouldn't mind me using in the game. Re: Beer Pong Kinect 3D (XNA)
So I am now nearing the end of the UE expansion and getting back into the beer pong. I forgot how far i was with this one. Seems the online multiplayer is working as well (don't remember doing that, haha). Here is a quick video to show off the mechanics, i am still looking for a 3d modeller for the models and animations, the other one kinda fell through.
The metro menu style was homecooked, i think it has turned out pretty well and I think it will work well once I integrate with Kinect.
Heres a short vid of the progress so far. If anyone knows a cheap/good modeller let me know!
edit**
Also, still wanting to throw the elysian shadows logo on one of the in game t-shirts. Is there a clean version I can use?

You could probably make use of the one on the homepage, though you'll probably want to re-position the text for a T-Shirt.EdBoon wrote:Also, still wanting to throw the elysian shadows logo on one of the in game t-shirts. Is there a clean version I can use?

Wait, it's using the KINECT now!? Hell yes!
I would use the logo that Dan just posted too.

Re: Beer Pong 3D (XNA)
Yeah, I have been messing with Kinect for a while and its really fun. it's amazing what people are doing with it. I have played a few retail games like Kinect Sports Darts , which is actually pretty sucky. I feel like i have been getting pretty good results with throwing objects with using Kinect. Something tells me I can easily outperform the trained professionals who developed the darts game . It will also be 1 to 1 body movement, so u will be able to swat balls that bounce, taunt, and stuff like that. I also am going to integrate a victory dance system, inspired by Mortal Kombat of course, which will have a cool animation after you beat your opponent. One of the victory taunts will be a people's elbow to the beer pong table and snap it in half and flip into the air, then it will land on the opponents and explode the entire room with blood. Crazy stuff like that, but not all so graphic.Falco Girgis wrote:Wait, it's using the KINECT now!? Hell yes!

I am currently diving into skeletal animation with blender so i don't have to outsource everything. Excited to get the animations going though.
Thanks for the logo, definitely throwing that on one of the in game unlockable t-shirts.

Re: Beer Pong 3D (XNA)
Wow, animation is no joke. It has taken me a very long time to get comfortable with everything that is involved with creating animations for rigged characters. I have since learned Maya, Motion Builder, and ipisoft (motionless motion capture). The combination of the 3 can be pretty powerful. Not sure if I had mentioned this before but I have a sweet setup in my dev room with 2 kinects setup for mocap. I have done all my own animations. The mocap part is really pretty simple after you get the workflow of things figured out. The hard part is facial expressions which I haven't even touched yet, and finger/hand positioning. Because the Kinect does not track individual fingers (kinect 1) i have had to do all the finger animations by hand and it's a pain in the ass. But for the most part I could get all of the animations done pretty easily, and each one gets easier.
I might reduce scope a bit on this project so that I can get a jump start on learning Unity3D for development on Xbox One, still deciding but I hate the thought of trying to push something just to get it out of the way without my best effort.
Hoping to finish this by the end of the year!
