JS Lemming wrote:Seriously. When I look around, I see millions of people doing truly meaningless tasks to earn a small bit of money. Everyday, for the rest of their lives... they do these little things that don't amount to anything. They take their small bit of money and pay the bills and whatnot and spend the rest on a few nice things now and then. And it's almost like they don't even mind. I'd rather die than live a life like that. What's the point of living? Where's the glory? The adventure? Am I the only one who feels this way?
The next time you're in school. Look at your teacher. Try to imagine that you are him/her. Realize that what you are doing now, you will do everyday for years and years and years. Until you can finally retire and die. That teacher just wasted his life. Those ignorant brats won't remember him and why should they? It's just a waste. And for what? To pay the bills? Is that what life is? Screw that.
You know what's sad? I see myself headed in the direction of those millions of idiots who do meaningless tasks to live. I currently don't see a way out of it. Society is too fixed in that train of thought. I am trying to think of ways out... but it might end of being to late...
So... what do you peeps want to do when you grow up? Do you acknowledge that your life will be meaningless? Maybe I'm just crazy. Really.
All this over-ambition and naivete wears off after a while. I'm going to be a programmer, hopefully on games in some managerial position, and maybe do my own projects on my own time. Either that or an artist...not sure which yet.
Trust me, most of the ideas you have you soon realize will never happen. It's just part of life.

I know... I already know it will never happen. I just don't want to. Everytime I realize it... I always get a little spark that says "But wait! It doesn't have to be that way..."
I'm basically in a constant teeter between reality and my reality.

I accept that what I do when I get older probably won't make a difference.
Imagine if I were a game programmer though. Making games for millions to enjoy. That really is a difference.
But that's just one carreer I'm considering. I have a thing for biology...
I was considering Physicist/Biologist/Chemist or programmer.

I personally consider a professional game programmer a lousy job... I mean, it's not like you get to design the game.... just sit at a computer with 100 other guys and typing little bits of the code....
I'm most likely going to be an engineer of some sort... Don't know what kind though.

I want to make a career out of something I enjoy.
However, if I can't (which is most likely), I'm thinking of something along the lines of a journalist.

Yep, of course it is.
Personally, I coudn't give a shit if I make a difference or not. I just want to have fun with my life and do something I enjoy.

Indeed.
I should post pictures of my new house. Just looking at its brilliance should be fun. :D

That was random.
Did you move farther away from downtown?

Go to snow-ball! Get a girl and realize how fun interacting with real people is!
Also, what part of a chicken does a chic'n stick come from?

Ha! That's funny. I'm like the lord of anti-socializing. That won't work.

Most game-creating crews are 10 people or less. Not only that, but you definitely all have a very well-respected opinion on the game if you made it to that level. And if you graduate from college for Software Engineering (UAH I know has a bachelor's program) then you are more likely to head the team. Speak more on the subject when you know more about it, until then don't spew shit from thy ass.

You should try eating some of the crap that comes out of my ass once in a while. Just look at the credits on any professional game. Maybe you are mistakenly thinking of a large indie team... Heck, I recently saw a G4 special on Psychonaughts and they had a big deal of people working on that mug.
Also, my point was that they don't really create the game they think up. They are just hired to program somebody else's game.
