From the readme first post (by dr house):
"I've told people time and time again, it's a closed project, and no source will be released until they're ready. "
So, if I understand that correctly, it's closed source until it is said to be in a ready state, in which it will then be made open source? What's the point of keeping it closed source "until it's ready" if you're just going to release it as open source anyways? Wouldn't it be more worthwhile to have it as open source so that one may get the opinions and input by others such that the end product is better off having had input from a second pair of eyes?
Or more likely, you have a typo, which is my guess (imagine that a newb who actually reads the read before you posts threads)
On a flip side, what was the point of the "Post's you shouldn't make" forum? IMHO, and this is coming from working on the business end of software, having that sort of section on a website you're hosting can come off in an unprofessional light - not that I'm trying to say "you shouldn't have that section, takes it down!!!111", but simply rather that most professional programmers are too busy with coding and doing more important things than to be moving posts to a section intended for public ridicule: isn't having such a thing a bit counter productive to begin with? Why would anybody want to hold a grudge against those who have proven themselves to be less than admirable? Just a neutral observation is all, no offense intended.
Otherwise I just came here because I followed a few links from YouTube and thought I might drop in and say hi.
Just a few questions...

j00 guyz need to do an EFF AYEE KYUU video.
How about... it's their choice to keep it closed, maybe they're good enough that they don't need advice from anyone and everyone from YouTube, and would actually prefer if people weren't looking at and judging an incomplete piece of work?
Or maybe it's JUST THAT MESSY O_O.
But I doubt it.
Anyway. It's completely their choice, so why challenge it? :P
(I shoulda checked it out while I was still on the team >_>)

Re: Just a few questions...
"Ready" is arbitrary. We may never be "ready" to make it open source. Also, "I worked on a project with 500 other people!" doesn't look on good on a resume as "Me and 8 other people worked in a team like a professional environment and made this!" But I'm sure Falco has the real reason, which I've forgotten.Johannes wrote:From the readme first post (by dr house):

It's where I move flame wars to. If I leave it as able to be posted in, the flame war continues. If I lock or delete the whole thread, I lose all valuable content. If I delete it, I get "WTF U DELEETED MY PSOT!" So instead I cut out the flame war part and write "I cut out the flame war and put it in [thread link to posts you shouldn't make], don't post on that subject any more." Think of it as the forum's way of keeping a history of everything like Wikipedia does. I find it's an excellent solution to keeping the forums working smoothly without having a "no rules" section, which I don't want. Perhaps you want a better name for the section? I don't think anyone here thinks of it as a ridicule section, though, honestly. Also, Falco named the section; have you read the sort of comments he leaves on his videos? Not much tolerance for some people :)On a flip side, what was the point of the "Post's you shouldn't make" forum? And if professional programmers have better things to do than moderate their forums, especially when they attract as many youngsters as we do, then I sure as heck don't want to be part of that community. The signal-to-noise ratio is bound to be poor.

I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned.
