There's no shortage of people who say they want my job. This is certainly the next best thing - or better in some ways: Rock Band Network.
(Does it count as shameless self promotion if it's not your thing, but you work for the company?)

To sum up:
-take your band's music (not copyrighted music you don't have the rights to!!)
-chart the instruments
-upload it via your XNA Creators account
This is a very happy day for me, because it's part of the reason for the recent recordings I've been doing, and now I can actually talk about it. It's been a long few months.
For clips of the audio team pretending to work (and the audio QA team actually working) with a voiceover of the singer of my band talking about it: http://creators.rockband.com/

Sounds great, do I have to get a payed XNA creator acc?
Do you think two electric guitars and a trumpet make a good combination?
is it even possible to chart/author a trumpet?
What level are the RBN tools compared to professional software like Cubase or are the tools only there for you to invoke the song in the game?

Yup, it's through the same system that Community Games goes through essentially.Netwatcher wrote:Sounds great, do I have to get a payed XNA creator acc?
In the game? Given that there can really only be Guitar/Bass/Drums/Vocals, you may have some trouble there.Netwatcher wrote:Do you think two electric guitars and a trumpet make a good combination?
Theoretically, but you'd have to play it on a guitar still. I'm not sure what the authoring rules will stipulate as far as playing an instrument that is not a guitar or drums. You can generally get away with pretty much any percussive sound being drums, but I can't recall an instance where we authored a brass/wind instrument as a guitar.Netwatcher wrote:is it even possible to chart/author a trumpet?

I thought RBN would be more flexible because it's open for the general public, sticking with the good 'ol instruments might not be the best choice while releasing it to that wide audience... just saying...

Only Xbox, because it goes through the creators club - of which PS3 has no equivalent.
EDIT:
A) no longer be compatible with RB or RB2
B) be even more complicated than it already is
C) would require even more peripherals (trust me, nobody wants more hardware at this point)
Like I said, you could theoretically chart other instruments as guitar, but creating whole other instruments.. that's not a patch, that's a whole new game.

I understand what you're saying, but if we added any other instruments, it wouldNetwatcher wrote:I thought RBN would be more flexible because it's open for the general public, sticking with the good 'ol instruments might not be the best choice while releasing it to that wide audience... just saying...

Goddamn. Guys, seriously. You rock so hard. Guitar Hero 4, 5, 12, Aerosmith, and whatever the hell they're at now has NOTHING on you.

Re: RBN: For people who want my job.
Well, it certainly does relate to Rock Band, since Eran is the co-founder of the company, and therefore my boss. Why do you ask?Netwatcher wrote:David, do you know Eran Egozy by any chance?(and yes, this relates to rock band)
Oh, and my name is Joe, but that's my fault for never setting my username to my real name on anything.
