I have recently been listening to the Final Fantasy Tactics OST while programming and doing homework. Such a f***ing great soundtrack, few games have done a better job IMHO. Anyways, it has been a great set of tunes to keep me focused, just thought I'd share. Carry on.

Re: New Soundtrack to Programming
I whack on something instrumental and I'm good to go.
Vocals distract me
Can never go wrong with a good DnB mix.

Re: New Soundtrack to Programming
I recently invested in some reel big fish from that snazzy amazon mp3 site
It makes a great change from hearing that screamo crap everyone plays in all of the other rooms in my uni house.

I think I can program pretty well, it's my compiler that needs convincing!

And now a joke to lighten to mood :D
I wander what programming language anakin skywalker used to program C3-PO's AI back on tatooine? my guess is Jawa :P

I always find new age/ambience helps. Stuff that makes me want to dance distracts slightly, but is a fun break and a great mood motivator!
When I'm trying to learn something I generally pause the music so I can focus on it.
edit:
MUSIC IS GOD

<--- Listens to this sort of thing. I usually listen to only caffiene machine stuff when I code in C++, Melodeath in Perl and Game Maker
Key examples of the caffiene machine music are Dark Angel, VIO-lence, and Vektor.
Death/Melodeath music is Kalmah, Arsis, Death, and Autopsy.
Vocals usually distract me, so for a while listening to bands like this who I can't understand worked great, until I learned all the lyrics by heart. It must be weird for my family to hear me muttering "The rancid smell of burning hair;
Screaming in excruciating pain" under my breath.

Haha. I wonder the same thing when I listen to Deathstars/Gothminister/etc - industrial in general. And I avoid putting it on the car's CD's XDIt must be weird for my family to hear me muttering "The rancid smell of burning hair;
Screaming in excruciating pain" under my breath.

I like people yelling in my ear, it drowns out my little siblings... although I've had like some strange extreme ADHD/procrastination attack when it comes to accounting lately... Its funny the things I will do to get out of doing it... The other day I was sitting on the couch to do accounting, and my little sister is like "My computer isn't working!" so I responded (by speaking to my whole family at once) "Welp, since I don't wanna do my homework, I'll be there in a second" lol
then at school my internet boss thomas (we go to school and i'm a grade above him :O )... has to constantly say "quit talking to me and do your accounting, you fucking procrastinator!"
