Google owning YouTube is getting real old real fast

Random irrelevance that just didn't fit into other forums. Talk about anything.

Personally, I believe in digital freedom. Porn on Youtube would be awesome by me.
I second that, on all of it.

mmmmm...porn (insert drolling smilie here)

Well I suppose parents would be far more likely not to let their 8-year-olds comment on the site.

True true.
I just registered with Vimeo, and I've been sharing videos on Gametrailers.com (though not near to the extent as on YouTube) for a bit now.

I'll get these up to date once I get back from my trip to Seattle.

Nice one, as i said before, i'm quite impressed with their player technology, seems a lot more robust than YouTube's to some extent, i'll probably get a video eventually (i'll have to make something worth recording first though  )

EDIT: i've just signed up to vimeo after watching a few of the videos, i really am quite interested in the quality, from what I gathered from other videos, it seems to handle different ratios a lot better than youtube (like you actually get a square screen for standard and a rectangular one for widescreen instead of those blasted bars!)

what are peoples thoughts on the quality of the video/sound on this site?

The thing I notice about Vimeo straight off is that it limits your amount of uploads (though, I'd have a hard time uploading the max 500 MB per week), and that you can only have a maximum of 20 tags on your videos, and a maximum of one "Channel" (I have no idea what this is yet). (And it's asking you everywhere to sign up for Vimeo Plus).
But, once I use it more I'll probably find some nuances that I like.

*edit*:
Oh, I do like being able to upload my own thumbnail of my videos. And the little group things. Except that some guy spammed the "Game Developers" group with some WoW Machinima BS.

I do really wish both YouTube and/or Vimeo would have a much more streamlined, simpler approach to mass-updating movie descriptions. It gets really annoying trying to update links in the descriptions and all that, or changing all their names, or making sure all my old YouTube videos have the correct website.

*editedit*
Looks like Albums are == Playlists, and Vimeo has a much better way of organizing the order of them.

I guess Channels would just be... if I wanted to separate my "programming" from my "lets plays" and my "me playing piano" videos.

At least with the GreatGamesExperiment.com, you could actually.. YOU KNOW, customize your page! Put different things like "photo album", "video", or just some widget to add HTML into. Why the poop can't we do that with these video hosting sites? :|

My favorite part about YouTube is the fact that the player uses FLVs to play the videos which means when you upload a video it converts to an FLV in order to be played.

However, if you choose to instead upload an FLV file YouTube goes...

Neither. :(

I wanted to do Chaos Rift Studios, but that's not the way Vimeo works. They wanted a first and last name, so I type them in. You don't get a username. =/

The channel is "Elysian Shadows Development," though.

I noticed I could change my name at any time, and there doesn't have to be two words, so you could probably do "Chaos Rift Studios" for name.

Okay, going to try. Because "Falco Girgis" totally didn't do much good. XD

You can set up a custom URL, even though you have your name.

Fun Fact: When the original creators of YouTube released the website, they couldn't even afford a kitchen sink, so they weren't very hesitant to sell out to Google for 1.65 billion dollars, if they kept the website they would be trillionares. :p

trillionares? I call bullshit.

Considering the fact that our national deficit is at 11 trillion, and trillionare means multiple trillions... they could pay off over a fifth of the national debt? Bullshit.
