Thanks for the update :DGyroVorbis wrote:Status update: The engine rewrite is basically done. We have a lot of things to show off.
But Kendall has a huge assembly project due, I have an assembly project, a networking project, and a QT project due every week now. College is starting to kill us.
We work on ES whenever we have a minute to spare, though. And yes, we have started recording ESR2. And no, we don't know when it will be done.

Engine is virtually done? Wow that was fast... I was expecting to see some videos here and there as the engine was being worked on, but then again I expected the process to take much longer. Awesome, can't wait to see some of the results.
Dear god, they actually ported ES to a piece of celery!MarauderIIC wrote:You know those people that are like "CHECK IT OUT I just made Linux run on this piece of celery [or other random object]!!"? Yeah, that's Falco, but with ES.

Yeah, that was the original plan.Trask wrote:Engine is virtually done? Wow that was fast... I was expecting to see some videos here and there as the engine was being worked on, but then again I expected the process to take much longer. Awesome, can't wait to see some of the results.
...but as time went on, things changed. I decided that I would rather record things that people hadn't seen before, and introduce new features rather than "here is <insert here> implemented in the new engine." Nobody can see any difference in an engine rewrite unless it provides something that the old engine didn't.
I want to do take the project and the videos to the next level. In order to do the engine rewrite can't just be done. We have to show you the reason we wanted to rewrite it.

That's really amazing progress, well done. I hate to see ppl bitchin at you guys about not releasing videos when they have no idea how much you've actually got done. Well i'm impressed anyway

And yeah I saw your facebook status about the four projects, that really sucks...GyroVorbis wrote:Status update: The engine rewrite is basically done. We have a lot of things to show off.

And people wonder why I'm an asshole to subscribers sometimes.
It's pretty hard to constantly be bitched at to release a video when you're working your ass off on the product to get it to a point that you're proud to show off. Even worse yet is that 90% of the people bitching at me are either kids or people living at home with their parents who have no idea how hard it is to pursue your ambitions, make it through engineering school with decent grades, and enjoy your life with your girlfriend.

I'm not sure about other people (mainly the non-programmer subscribers), but I would definitely be interested in a comparison video showing off the code improvements in the new engine over the old one along-side the actual visual results of the rewrite. Of course I'm not expecting you to post a bunch of source code, but an overview of your implementations would be sweet IMO.GyroVorbis wrote: I decided that I would rather record things that people hadn't seen before, and introduce new features rather than "here is <insert here> implemented in the new engine." Like a list of what's running faster/better in the rewritten engine.dandymcgee wrote: Of course I'm not expecting you to post a bunch of source code, but an overview of your implementations would be sweet

Re: Adventures in Game Development
I'm wondering if/how much PSP you got implemented, I do recall from the Rev vids that you were concentrating on DC/PC first. Either way, a show of how the Gyrolib is being used etc, would be much appreciated and popcorn worthy. :D

I worked my ass off on libGyro, somebody had better looking forward to hearing about it. As for what's running on what... my mouth is closed. I'm not saying anything.
The rewrite wasn't really for speed. As a matter of fact, the new engine is probably going to run slower overall (despite doing lots of things more efficiently) just because of all the new/complex things. 60fps is 60fps.Milch wrote:Like a list of what's running faster/better in the rewritten engine.

Re: Adventures in Game Development
Yeah, well, we did come to the decision to post like, textual bi-weekly updates in the news, but we keep letting that slip. Probably because you want things in the videos to be new, not a video version of the news page... which I totally get.GyroVorbis wrote:It's pretty hard to constantly be bitched at to release a video
I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned.
Re: Adventures in Game Development
Just wanted to say that the engine and libGyro sounds sweet
Looking forward to a new video when ever it comes
Keep it up and good luck with school and ES
